COVID-19 Death Toll in Iran Exceeds 54,000
Rokna: The death toll from the novel coronavirus pandemic surpassed 54,000 in Iran.
Speaking at a daily press conference on Tuesday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said the coronavirus has taken the lives of 187 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 54,003.
The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has exceeded 1,170,000 after the detection of 6,208 new cases since yesterday, she added.
Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 915 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.
At least 904,000 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.
Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,467 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.
The spokeswoman also said nearly 7,150,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 77.8 million and the death toll has surpassed 1.7 million.
