Pourheydari A Role Model for All: Mahmoud Fekri
Rokna: Esteghlal coach Mahmoud Fekri said that late Mansour Pourheydari should be a role model for all.
Pourheyadri died on November 4, 2016 after a one-year battle with lung disease in Tehran.
He played as a right defender for Esteghlal for 10 years and won the Asian Championship in 1970 with the Blues.
He took charge of Esteghlal in 1983 as Asghar Shahrafi’s replacement and led the team to its second Asian trophy in 1991. Under his leadership, Esteghlal football team won two Iran league titles in 1990 and 2001 as well as two Hazfi Cups in 1996 and 2000.
As Iran coach, Pourheydari helped Team Melli win title at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok.
“We commemorated the fourth death anniversary of Pourheydari. His death was a big loss to the Esteghlal club,” Fekri said.
“Pourheydari achieved great success and will always be remembered. It was a great honor for me to be his player in my playing career,” he added.
“He sacrificed himself for Esteghlal and truly loved his team. Pourheydari can be a good role model for all of us,” Fekri concluded.
