No Contact with Biden Team: Iranian Spokesperson
Rokna: Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman denied any contact between Tehran and the team of the US presidential election winner, saying the only connection that may be formed with a US administration in power would relate solely to the JCPOA.
In remarks at a press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh rejected any contact between Tehran and the team of US president-elect Joe Biden.
“We basically have no contact with anybody (US official) about anything other than the issues totally related to the JCPOA, specifically when an (a new) administration has not still taken power in the US.”
Iran will make its decisions according to the new situation after Biden’s administration takes office, the spokesman added, stressing that what matters is actions, not words and speculations.
The Islamic Republic’s policies are unaffected by the US administrations, Khatibzadeh underscored.
“The party that has violated commitments and has also threatened the others to breach (the JCPOA) was the US… We must witness reforms (of US policies) in all spheres, then we will judge on the basis of the measures,” he noted.
He also advised certain neighboring countries that have become concerned about their ability to lobby, purchase arms and buy security after the tenure of a “delusion” called Trump, to come to the understanding that it is necessary to devise a local mechanism.
On Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the global rejection of the harmful policies the US government has adopted over the past three years, saying the next US administration has an opportunity to correct the mistakes and return to the international law.
