Biden is a right choice to combat Trump's poison: Analyst
Rokna: Journalist and political commentator Richard Silverstein says if elected to the White House Joe Biden is unlikely to be what America needs in the long run but at this time he is good to “combat the poison that Trump is injecting.”
“Well, I think Biden is moderate; he’s a pragmatic person; he’s a calming influence. I don’t think he’s that visionary, he’s got a lot of charisma,” he told Press TV.
“I think that he is someone who is going to try to devise a program and execute it, and appoint talented and confident people to implement the program,” he added.
“I think that he is right now probably what America needs. (But) I don’t think in the long run he is what America needs. But at this moment of time where we have a corrupt, corrosive, toxic atmosphere, with tons of violence and threats of potential terrorist attacks from white supremacists who reject this outcome, I think that we need a calm, healing voice at this time to combat the poison that Trump is injecting,” he explained.
Biden said on Friday night that he is going to win the US presidency as incomplete returns from the presidential election showed the Democrat close to an insurmountable lead.
“My fellow Americans, we don’t have a final declaration of victory yet, but the numbers tell us it’s clear. Tell us a clear and convincing story. We are going to win this race," Biden said on Friday night in a short address to the American people, which he had expected would be a victory speech before vote counts dragged on.
Biden added that he and his running mate Kamala Devi Harris were already meeting with experts as they prepare for the White House.
However, he called on the American people to be patient and wait for all the ballots to be counted. He stressed that the purpose of American politics should be solving problems, and not fanning the flames of conflict.
The former vice-president was speaking from his hometown state of Delaware. He is currently widening his vote numbers in Pennsylvania and Georgia.
Biden is leading Trump in the key states of Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona, while the president is ahead in Alaska and North Carolina. He is widening his vote numbers in Pennsylvania and Georgia.
Biden has so far secured 264 out of 270 electoral votes needed for him to become the 46th US President. Trump has obtained 214.
