Foreign Ministry Pursuing Repatriation of Iranians Drowned in The Channel
Rokna: Iran’s Foreign Ministry said efforts are underway to repatriate the bodies of members of an Iranian family who died trying to cross the English Channel in high winds.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s public relations department said in a statement on Saturday night that the country’s diplomatic mission and consular affairs office in Paris have launched efforts to facilitate the repatriation of bodies of the victims to Iran.
The efforts began immediately after the tragic incident and are still in progress, it added.
The statement also dismissed certain media reports about the incident, saying the authentic news would be released only by the Foreign Ministry.
Five members of an Iranian Kurdish family died a few days ago as they were trying to cross the English Channel in high winds.
British media say Rasul Iran Nezhad and his wife, both 35, and their three children drowned as they tried to reach Britain by boat after paying smugglers thousands of euros.
