'Major incident' near The London Shard as armed police seen hiding behind trees

Large numbers of armed police officers rushed into a London building amid reports of a major incident last night.

Metropolitan Police officers made their way into Selbourne House just south of the River Thames in Southwark shortly after 10pm, a witness told The Mirror.

They were seen coming out with a man who was then led away, the witness said.

Scotland Yard later confirmed a man had been arrested following a disturbance at a residential address.

Members of the public had been cleared from the street during the police incident, which ran on from around 3pm yesterday afternoon.

A witness said he had seen 30 armed officers at the scene.

Police snipers wearing night vision goggles pointed their guns at a window in the housing estate, the Evening Standard reported.

Another witness noted several Territorial Support Group vans were parked on the perimeter.

Several police cars were parked outside the building, while at least a dozen fire fighters have gathered by a fire engine.

The Met said in a statement: "A man has been arrested after a disturbance at a residential address in Southwark.

"Police were called at 14:12hrs on Saturday, 2 January to a property in Great Dover Street, SE1.

Emergency services were in attendance for hours

"Officers, including armed response officers, attended the scene and spoke with a man who refused to leave the property.

"At approximately 22:20hrs armed officers entered the property and safely detained a man. He has been arrested on suspicion of affray and making threats to commit criminal damage.

"No injuries were reported. Enquiries are ongoing."

People living on the street had been told to stay inside by police officers.

By 10.50pm only a small number of police officers remains outside the building and the public were allowed outside their homes.

London Ambulance Service said that they had not needed to treat anyone at the scene.Follow the Official Rokna NEWS Telegram Channel For More and fresh NEWS.
