Two girls, 15, 'raped at Australian holiday resort' after meeting 3 men on New Year's Eve

Two 15-year-old girls were allegedly raped at a holiday resort after meeting three young men at a popular beach on New Year's Eve, say police.

One of the girls was in a "semi-naked" and "distressed" state when she went to the concierge for help, said investigators.

Three men, all aged 22, were quizzed by detectives on suspicion of rape and sexual assault before being released pending further investigation.

Police said three girls encountered the three men on the beach in Surfers Paradise, a seaside resort on Queensland's Gold Coast in eastern Australia, on Thursday night.

Two of the girls reported being raped, the force added.

Acting Chief Superintendent Geoff Sheldon told ABC News that at least one of the 22-year-old men would be charged.

He said: "A 15-year-old girl has come to the concierge in a semi-naked state, in a distressed state and police were called.

"In investigations in relation to that, it turns out that three girls, all 15, were on the beach and they met three young fellows and they went back to the room.

"At this stage, it looks like there will be at least one offence of rape in relation to the assault on these girls."

Mr Sheldon said the investigation was in its early stages, but it is understood two of the girls were allegedly attacked.

After meeting on the beach, the girls went with the men to the unit where the men were staying at the holiday park.

Mr Sheldon added: "It's gone downhill from there, basically.

"I think it's been one of those alcohol events that have had a very, very serious consequence for all concerned."

A rape charge was likely to be filed on Friday, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

The men were released after more information from the alleged incident emerged, the report added.

According to the newspaper, the men offered a version of events that led police to make further inquires.Follow the Official Rokna NEWS Telegram Channel For More and fresh NEWS.
