Tributes paid to 'one of a kind' dad, 25, police say was targeted in brutal murder

A murder inquiry has been launched after a young dad was killed in what police say was a brutal 'targeted murder'.

Heartbroken friends of Billy McGuire have paid tribute to the 25-year-old after he was killed during a brutal slaying at a house in Clydebank, Scotland.

He was found seriously injured inside a property shortly after midnight on Monday and rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

He was pronounced dead a short time later after medics were unable to save him, the Daily Record reports.

Another man, aged 34, was also taken to hospital where he was found to be in a critical condition after being injured during the same incident.

Police at the scene of the incident

Police believe the ambush was ‘targeted’ and are now treating Billy’s death as murder and the attack on the other man as attempted murder.

A hunt for two suspects who entered the house and attacked the two men is now underway.

Friends paid tribute to the man they described as "one of a kind" on social media.

One friend wrote: “Aw Bill. You’ll be sorely missed by many. John need you to keep fighting.”

Another said: “Thinking of his babies and his misses and family at this horrible time. You defo were one of a kind bee mcgee.”

A third added: “Fly high buff sleep tight son GBNF thinking of all the family at this sad time.”

A fourth wrote: “Still can’t believe it. Heart is breaking. Thinking of all the family, rest in peace Billy.”

Another friend said their thoughts were with Billy’s partner and his three children.

A major police investigation remains underway and officers say it is ‘absolutely vital’ to trace the people responsible as soon as possible.

Officers are investigating the killing

Detective Chief Inspector Alan McAlpine of the Major Investigation Teams said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“From initial enquiries we believe that this is a targeted attack on these two men.

“There were a number of people within the house when two men entered the property and became involved in an altercation with Mr McGuire and the 34-year-old man.

“The two men responsible then made off from the house.

“It is absolutely vital that we trace them as soon as soon as possible and we would urge anyone with information that may assist our investigation to do the right thing and come forward.

“I realise that this incident will be of concern to the local community, so I would like to reassure them that additional officers will be in the area and anyone with concerns should approach officers.”
