Coronavirus Death Toll in Iran Exceeds 52,600

Speaking at a daily press conference on Tuesday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said the coronavirus has taken the lives of 223 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 52,670.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 1,123,474 after the detection of 7,704 new cases since yesterday, she added.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,299 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.

At least 833,276 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,704 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 6,797,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 73 million and the death toll has surpassed 1,630,000.
